Erodium boissieri

Notes: Erodium boissieri is one of the plants that is well adapted to extreme temperature changes and to the lack of a fertile, moist soil and high concentrations of minerals of the dolomite formations on the west side of the Sierra Nevada. It can only be found around Monte Trevenque (2083m) in southern Spain. This endemic species of the Sierra Nevada mountain range is on the ´Lista Roja de la Flora Vascular de Andalucía´. Erodium boissieri was named after the Swiss botanist Pierre Edmond Boissier (1810-1885).

Flower: 6-10mm in laxed clusters, petals deeply notched
Leaves: grey-green, three-lobed at the top; upper leaves more deeply lobed
Habitat: dry meadows, hedges, banks, waste ground, lawns, sand-dunes, roadsides
Distribution: native to the Mediterranean and sub-Mediterranean areas, naturalized in other parts of Europe





Notes: Geranium molle is pollinated by insects and self-pollinated when not visited by insects. Dove's-foot Crane's-bill is one of the foodplants of Aricia agestis (Brown Argus). This butterfly lays eggs on the underside of leaves.

Note: one of many Geranium species which are valued in gardens; naturalized in the Netherlands
Synonym: Geranium sylvaticum subsp. sylvaticum

Colour: pink
Habitat: scree, windy rocky ridges and summits
Distribution: endemic of Sierra Nevada and North Africa
Notes: It depends on the wind for its pollination. Similar to Erodium foetidum (Pyrenees) and Erodium glandulosum (Picos de Europa).
Synonyms: Erodium petraeum subsp. crispum and Erodium foetidum subsp. cheilanthifolium
