Distribution: native to most of Europe from Spain and Ireland to Ukraine, with the exception of Scandinavia, Russia, Belarus and the Baltic Republics
Note: Flowers nodding, bell-shaped, up to six flowers per umbel, all on different length stalks. After flowering the stalks assume a more or less vertical position as the fruits develop. Widely cultivated species, often forming clumps. Naturalized in a number of countries, for example in Denmark. Leucojum aestivum is on the Belgium Red List and on the Dutch Red List of vascular plants.
