Note: Aquatic or semi-aquatic perennial with stout creeping runners. Bogbean can be locally abundant. The name Menyanthes comes from the Greek words menyein, meaning "disclosing", and anthos, meaning "flower", in reference to the sequential opening of flowers on the inflorescence. Menyanthes trifoliata is on the Dutch Red List of vascular plants, classified as vulnerable.
